Levelling Gifts

Just a reminder to all our members out there that as a guild we have leveling gifts available as you reach each 10th level.

Lvl 10 - 10 gold
Lvl 20 - 20 gold
Lvl 30 - 30 gold

and so on as you level. These gifts are only available in full if you have been a member of the guild for the entire 10 levels. If you have joined our guild mid level then you will receive a percentage of the leveling gift you would have been entitled to.

Once you reach each 10th level you will need to notify Aryeeth/Aryeth through a pm so that your gift can be issued to you.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Guild Rules of Conduct

Knights of Ni is a supportive Guild for newbies and experienced players. We offer mentorships and events. Because of dealing with real people in our Guild interaction we have made the following Rules of Conduct:

* Be polite and kind to everyone in the game. If we catch you screaming and shouting in a general chat channel, you will be removed from the Guild.

* When being helped, dont get greedy. We're here for awhile. You can always get help. When a non-member asks you for help, you are to support this person to the best of your situation, knowledge and/or possibilities.

* Bank access will granted after a few days of becoming a Member.

* Promotions consist of time you are with the guild and the accomplishments you achieve. Included here are also your efforts to help your fellow Members reach a higher level.

* As we interact with both adults and teenagers, we have inplemented special ranks for these groups. Make sure you know who is online before you entertain your fellow Members with flowery text or sexual descriptions of your favourite games.

* Our Junior Members will be Guided by a Mentor/ix, an Officer who will exclusively guide and support Junior Members. Be careful about how you behave, because the Mentor/ix will also decide whether you can stay with the Guild or when you get your promotion.

* Members who use the Guild Bank as a means of enlarging their personal income will be removed from our gaming community.

* As a Member of the Guild you are supposed to wear a Guild Tabard. You can find them in the Guild Bank. If you cant access the Guild Bank yet, please ask an Officer to send you one. Be reminded that while wearing the tabard, you are in fact representing the Guild. When You need to wear a tabard of a faction to get the XP or the gold this is ofcourse okay.

* The Knights of Ni declare themselves against any form of racism, sexism or discrimination based on religion or sexual appetite. If you can not live along this Guideline, you have no place in the Guild.

* Conflicts between Members will basically be solved by the Members involved. If, however, the problems seem to be too overwhelming, an Officer can be asked to mediate between the two parties. Be reminded that the Officer at all times is able to remove anyone from the Guild.

* As Officers of the Guild are only human, they too can make mistakes. If you find you have been treated injustly, you have the right to petition to the Guild Master. His decisions however are binding and immediate.

* Due to spamming our Guild Chat we ask of our Members not to use any Bots or GuildGreet when speaking.

My Absence

Hi everyone

Just so you all know Kirette and I have been absent from WoW due to our house move and internet connection issues along with some finance problems. We both should be back online soon though and look forward to adventuring alongside you all once again! Until then, stay safe out there.

Officers Meeting Results and other Guild News

Greetings all Knights,

First things first, the officers meeting was held as planed and a very big thank you goes out to the officers who were able to attend this first and most important meeting of the return of the Knights of Ni.

At the meeting, the first steps have been taken for us as a guild to become a self contained guild. This is the hopes of being able to offer and supply what a player would like to have or do while being a member of the KoN.

What this means very simply put, We will continue to offer to be a social guild and will offer any and all help within our power to all members in their quests. They but have to ask for any help and it will be given, gladly so they can obtain level 80 in the best and fastest way. We will be able to offer support for whatever their preferences may require. This would include normal questing, Battle fields, or if they just want to socialize in a relaxed area and chat.

YES, this also means we will start to offer group raids. I have had a number of members and others ask if we do raids or if we are ever going to do raids, you now have your answer. I would appreciate it very much if you would give a warm welcome to our new Raiding Leader (Dathias).
We will start with a 10 man group and a sign up sheet will be prepared within the next few days for those who want to make the first group. Their will also be a list of requirements for the members who do sign up.

Also what will start again is presents for leveling. Ary will be the person who will handle all the presents and their presentations or distributions. The presents will start at level 10 and every 10 levels thereafter. This does not mean that a new member who signs up at level 45 will receive the full present at reaching level 50.

All in all, I believe we as a guild will be able to offer what no other guild does offer, a totally self contained and self sufficient guild being able to offer anything a player might want.

To make these offers, it is going to take new members and it is going to take all of us to recruit new members. This can not all be set at the feet of the officers to make it all happen by themselves, it will take us all. So start recruiting!!!

Well I think this has been long winded enough for now, their will be lots more to follow in the coming days.

I look forward to seeing you all on the game fields,

Oscar

Officers Meeting is called

Greetings All KoN,

First up, I want to welcome you all back home to the KoN. As you are aware by now the Merge
with the KoG has ended in failure. At this time I would ask that all loyal to the KoN please ask to be returned to our Guild and join our family. Please pass the word along to all other players so they can be returned to the fold.

Notice is hereby given: An officers meeting is called this Sunday coming at 8:00pm, It is important to try and attend their are a great many issues to address.

Also for the new members and old, I would ask you all to police the guild bank. It appears that some members think the items in the bank are for they benefit to be removed anytime and sold at the Auction House. The items in the Guild Bank/vault are put in for members to upgrade their own person, not their own Bank accounts.

I look forward to our continued progress as a Guild.

Until then,

Oscar Mayer/Oscars fury

Merger with Knights of Galbala

After our meeting with the KoG guild leader and members we have nutted out our transition into the ranks of our fellow KoG guild. Throughout the coming weeks as you come online may I ask that you begin moving your characters across to KoG whenever you see one of their officers online:

Phoenixstar
Rothaya
Crigizelia
Murderguy
Barittimet

There are more but they are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Please leave an alt in our KoN guild so that if our merge fails for some reason then we can easily return to KoN without to much hassle.

The Decision was made: we merge!

After long and ripe consideration and discussions with many of our active members, I decided to merge with Knights of Galbala. This coming week we will perform the merger at a date later to be announced.

As to the ranking system of our beloved guild, I have the promise of the KoG that all our members will be taken into the same rank, i.e. equivalent.

All our officers will remain officer in KoG and I myself will take the function of dept. guild master of KoG.

The Knights of Ni will remain existant for 4 more weeks as a guild to give people time to move their alts to the new guild. After that time, i will start removing the remaining people.

I would ask all members to keep 1 alt in this guild, so that all can come back should the merger fail in the first 4 weeks.

Untill then,

Ary.

Fate of the Knights of Ni

To my fellow guild folk, the time has come for some serious discussion on the direction and membership of our guild. Our leader Sanlen, aka Aryeeth, has asked me to initiate discussions with you, our members, to find out your opinion and view in regards to the continuation of our guild as it stands.

Currently we have over 170 members and I know that a lot of these are alts for our core roster of members. We have not been recruiting many new players to our ranks and as such we have found the attendance level has been slowly dropping for events etc. We have also lost guild members in waves along the way as they move on to guilds more suited to raiding or higher level events.

We have an opportunity to fully align ourselves with our sister guild the 'Knights of Galbala' by showing our support and joining their ranks as fully fledged members. This would entail a slowdown on our guild 'Knights of Ni' and a merge over time into our sister guild. Please let me know how you feel in regards to this opportunity as these are only thoughts at this stage.

We are currently not a very active, social and supportive guild. I recall a time when there would be more than 20 players online over the course of a weekend and up to 20 throughout the week. We have a chance to change this if you, our members, wish to help us and bring the guild back from the dangerous path we now tread. The more active we are in the guild, the more we get out of it.

I know real life takes precedence over WoW, I have 3 children who can consume my time at the drop of a hat. I don't like people placing WoW before family so there will be times when things don't go according to plan and we have to decline an event, that's life. Yet there are plenty of guilds out there who continue on through those rocky waters and break through into the light again. We should consider ourselves a family to rely on and be supportive. If we can't be there for each other then who will!

If we all choose to continue as the Knights of Ni then we will need to bring in new blood and get our ranks filling with new members. This will hopefully in turn bolster our event roster and hopefully lead to better instance and raiding events.

To the Knight of Ni Officers, I pose the same questions. What do you think and where would you like to see us go?

Can we all please take the time to think about, reflect and give any opinions on these matters. It is important for our future together.

5-player Molten Core...?

Well last night I was unfortunately delayed in returning home which meant the Molten Core attunement began later then expected. I must apologize to those who were eagerly awaiting at 7pm which I let down by not being online for the event I had organized. I will make sure that the next time will be betterer and awesomer!

I would like to say though that we did attempt the beginning of MC and we were looking quite comfortable with our group of 5 as we successfully downed a number of Giants, Core Hounds and even 1 boss - Lucifron! Our group consisted of:

Bleater - Tank
Lexasdez - Heals/DPS
Kruzandir - DPS
Talona - DPS
Badril - DPS

We enjoyed ourselves up until the Core Hounds around Lucifron who kept on being "reignited" by other smoldering core hounds after killing them. This carried on for about 20 mins with Bleater being able to tank them for the entire duration and then also to take on Lucifron.

Unfortunately that is where we ended. We just didn't have the firepower to down the 5 core hounds at the same time to stop them from respawning so in a last ditch attempt we tried to take on the vile beast Magmadar! We failed. We can say though we did put in a good effort for the Knights of Ni.

Each member of our little raid successfully attuned themselves to Molten Core so no more long runs through BRD to join the next jaunt we plan for the Core. I will look at running again over the weekend sometime the attunement and if we have enough members we can try again.

ps. if any of the lads from the run last night managed to take a screen shot let me know as I totally forgot!

Attunement time for MC and BWL

Well the time has come for our guild to reap the benefits of the Molten Core (MC) and Black Wing Lair (BWL)! However, before we can all embark on this epic adventure we first need to have ourselves attuned to the depths we need to descend to in order to reach these treasures. I will tell you now that this will not be an easy task and many of you will die a horrible deat.....oops, sorry! Wrong speech...uhm...ok!

My plan at this stage is to have an attunement period run over the course of a weekend or even a week where we have a number of level 80 volunteers (now known as Elite's) available to run those eligible guild members through Black Rock Depths and Upper Black Rock Spire purely for the attunement for MC and BWL and not an instance achievement. This is in preparation for raids on MC and BWL in the near future so that we can all be ready to roll without having to clear the dungeon just to get to the instance.

I will need some Elite volunteers who are able to assist in these "runs" as it can take a little while for myself to get members through safely being a rogue. Perhaps if this is run over the course of a weekend at first to see how the numbers go but I'm thinking that maybe we have both attunements run twice a day which would mean having maybe 2 Elite's ready to roll at set times. Depending on our time zones etc I was thinking a run at 10am for both MC and BWL and then a run at 7pm for MC and BWL again, both at server time. This way we can maybe capture most guildies and would allow for people to maybe do one in the morning and the other in the evening.

We always have the option of just running it ad hoc so whenever there is enough interest and a lvl 80 is available then go. Please remember that these attunements can also be accomplished in a raid group so if we have enough we can run 25 (or is it 35...anyone able to clarify that?) people through at a time.

I would like to hear some thoughts or feedback and if you are willing to volunteer as an 'Elite'. Once I have an understanding of peoples mindsets then we can make a definite time. I am tentatively booking the weekend of June 26 when the Fire Festival is on as I'm sure we will have a number of guildies come online over that time.

Let me know guys, if we don't communicate then we won't survive!

Down Time

Greetings all Knights,

Well it has been some time now since my last post. It is always a pleasure playing WOW with you all. It is unfortunate we loose some of our players for a number of reasons, including the ones that like to try and take what does not belong to them. I do not understand why a player would act in a way that is inappropriate by all standards and run the risk of getting Black Listed for all time.
Anyway for the most part WOW is a fun place to be to meet new people from all parts of the world and kill them... LOL
Anyway, to let everyone know, I will be off line for a few days starting on the 8th of this month, close to a week? I am moving house which is always lots of fun as some of you might know first hand. I do hope my move is pain free, but things do have a way of happening with no prior notice.
Also this is to inform some of you knights that you must be very careful when talking to any of these call centers. I know first hand that they are selling or giving away your details to scammers who do in fact try to get further details to try and rip you off, this is real life people not game life. Never give any of your personnel details over the phone to anyone. These 3rd world countries are full of thieves and will try anything to get what you have for themselves.
Anyway Knights, have fun with WOW and I look forward to playing with you all always.

Midsummer Fire Festival June 21 - July 4

Ah, so you weren't chosen for Flamekeeper this year? Don't fret, my friends! The Midsummer Fire Festival isn't merely about that traditional honor; it's a time of merriment, a chance to celebrate the hottest season of the year by lighting great fires across the land and sharing in what the elemental spirits can offer. Visit the Fire Festival camps and join in the revelry!

Tending the Flames

Across Azeroth, brilliant bonfires have been lit to signify the hottest months of the year. The chosen Flamekeepers are eager to ensure they continue burning long into the days and nights of the celebration - and they seek the aid of able explorers in doing so. Traverse the land and delve into dangerous dungeons at their behest. You may return hot, sweaty, and a little sooty...but these spiritual guides understand well the need to reward adventurers beyond the promise of "enlightenment."

Joining the Festivities

Every city has a prominently located Fire Festival camp where you can pick up quests to participate in the Festival fun. Shattrath City has a camp as well, but it does not offer all of the quests. The Midsummer Fire Festival has plenty to offer to both high level and lower level characters. By doing the quests and visiting the flames around the world, characters will earn gold, experience, and perhaps participate in some World PvP and exploration. In addition, groups of maximum level characters can summon a new boss with epic rewards for the duration of the event. Characters of all levels can turn in Burning Blossoms for unique Fire Festival rewards.

Garyboldi, our new Knight Treasurer!

Please welcome Garyboldi as our new Knight Treasurer. He has kindly stepped forward and accepted the task of running our bank and finances.

Garyboldi's reputation far exceeds his presence as an aspiring Human Mage who wields the staff known as 'Spirit Channeller's Rod' with ease. He has not only defeated Krik'thir the Gatewatcher in Azjol-Nerub but has also destroyed the terrifying and ever returning Keristrasza of the Nexus 3 times! Not to mention entering the dreaded keep of Utgarde and slaying Ingvar the Plunderer a total of 6 awe inspiring times!

As a revered frost Mage, Garyboldi does not mind stepping out in his Tattered Dreadmist Robes with his Viscious Wand of the Physician nestled by his side in his Wastewind Cinch. He likes to collect herbs and flowers for his recipes for success and survival and might be able to make you that special something for a love interest or two.

So please, all welcome Garyboldi as our new Knight Treasurer!

Raid, 29 May - Tempest Keep 70+

A raid of Tempest Keep has been organised for this Saturday, 29 May at 7:00pm by Iamtron (Badgertrons alt). It is for level 70+ and it would be good to see as many of you there as we can possibly get! Time and meeting place will be confirmed this week so you can all prepare for another epic adventure of the Knights of Ni!

A little background info on Tempest Keep:
The mighty Tempest Keep was created by the enigmatic naaru: sentient beings of pure energy and the sworn enemies of the Burning Legion. In addition to serving as a base of operations for the naaru, the structure itself possesses the technology to teleport through alternate dimensions, traveling from one location to another in the blink of an eye.

With Outland serving as the strategic battlefront in the ongoing Burning Crusade, the naaru recently used Tempest Keep to reach the shattered land. However, when the naaru set out from their stronghold, Prince Kael'thas and his blood elves quickly raided the dimensional fortress and assumed control over its satellite structures.

Now, guided by some unknown purpose, Kael'thas manipulates the keep's otherworldly technologies, using them to harness the chaotic energies of the Netherstorm itself.

Though Kael'thas and his minions maintain a tight hold on the keep, a band of draenei recently hijacked one of its satellite structures, the Exodar, and used it to escape Outland. In seeking out other worlds, the draenei, led by the ancient prophet, Velen, hoped to find allies who would stand with them against the Legion and its nihilistic Crusade.

Looking forward to Cataclysm?

With the release of the next exciting expansion due to be released sometime in the near future (hopefully this year...) I thought it may be nice to hear what your thoughts on the subject are. I don't know if I am really looking forward to it just at the moment as I have still yet to experience the full content of BC and WotLK! To add more content to my already expanding list of things to do before I die is a daunting thought, though if I do die I'll just res at the nearest graveyard and continue on...

What will be the next class you will roll once you have purchased, installed and updated the latest installment onto your already expanding WoW folder? Let us know what your likes/dislikes are, what you think would be a good/bad inclusion in the expansion or even just what you would like to see!

The floor is all yours to tell us what you want! I take no responsibility for it not being included in the expansion though.. ;)

BLACK TEMPLE RUN LAST SATURDAY

On saturday night last, at 8:30pm realm time we had 13 brave Adventurers burst forth into The Black Temple. We were 9 Guild Members and 4 Outsiders and we had tricky start with the first Enemies and the first Boss, but eventually got everything going well.

We had 3 groups consisting of:

GROUP 1
Badgertron - DPS
Thumpylina - DPS
Badril - DPS
Shalak - Tank
Adelle - Healer

GROUP 2
Moosefactor - Tank
Drkraw - DPS
Phoenixstar - Healer
Necromantis - DPS
Bambylina - DPS

GROUP 3
Upiity - DPS
Rubalina - DPS
Kazack - DPS

Thumpylina took care of the dungeon map and had the right strategies, organising every attack so we would all survive and come out victorious. In this Run we had Shalak and Moosefactor tanking, doing an excllent job at it, Phoenixstar and Adelle healing and also doing a wonderful job, while the rest of us were into DPS'ing the living daylights out of the baddies.

Even though we did not fully succeed in completing this raid everyone came out quite happy with the progress we made, managing to kill 3 out of 9 bosses, eventually getting stuck at and almost impossible to kill Gurtogg Bloodboil.

Everyone had a great time and did a fantastic job and I can't wait till the next raid. If you'd like to organise a raid or instance run for the guild yourself, please contact myself or any of the knight officers for assitance and we will help you any which way we can.

yours truly,
Badgertron

Casual 10-Man Raid Team!

Heya Guildies!

I am putting together a ten man raid team to explore current raid content, and am asking for Guildies who are interested in joining the raid team to leave their name with me. The requirements are that you have to be level 80 and, well, that's about it really. Clearly, there are ten spots to fill, with all roles currently open. If more than ten people express interest, then the team will be rotated so everyone gets a go.

Please note, this is *not* strictly for progression, rather, the focus is on having fun. Skill and gear are irrelevant. If we manage to progress past Naxxramas, that's a bonus, but we're there for a good time first and foremost, and to see content we wouldn't normally get to see.

So, if you're interested in joining the team, leave your name with me! First run will be in Naxxramas at 7:30 server time, Thursday 18th March. In the meantime, read up on Naxx - specifically, the boss fights. I'll hopefully see you there!

To all my comrades in arms

Hello to all knights,

Some of you might not know me and others may wish they did not, but I have missed you all and some may have noticed that I have not been on line very much in the last week or so, this is due to health reasons.
I have missed you all and I hope I will be able to spend more time doing what I like the most and that is WOW. (As if you did not know that already)
Their will still be times when I am not on line for a few days to a couple of weeks but I will do my best and in saying that I will always be available to help out anybody in need at anytime, all it takes is a yell for help when I am on line or send me a mail and we will set a time.
Anyway you all have fun and I will see you all on the Battle fields where ever they may be, Good Questing to you all.
Big "O"

Monday, 1 March 2010

Don't be *that* guy!

But Abs, you say, what on Earth are you on about in your headline?

Well, my dear readers and esteemed Guilderino's, I am so glad you asked! Allow me to whinge. Err...explain.

If you have Pugged at all for any length of time, or even just casually joined a group to smack, say,  Van Cleef about the face and neck, you have probably met Mr. That Guy. Aye, y'all know who I'm talking about, he's the guy that will make your PuG an altogether unpleasant experience. Sometimes, if you've walked under any ladders, broken the odd mirror, passed a black Cat or perhaps even murdered a Chinese person (lower that eyebrow! I hear it's bad luck...I could be wrong though lol) - you might even have the severe misfortune of having TWO Mr. That Guy's in your group! This is a supreme example of when you should run, arms flailing wildly in the air, squealing like a little schoolgirl, for the nearest exit. If you don't, these guys will most likely ruin your day.

Mr. That Guy delights in pointing out any mistake - in his all-important opinion - that you make. Of course, he can't do any wrong. He is one big slab of perfect awesomeness. Mr. That Guy was never a newbie, readers, hell no! The moment he started playing the game, he absorbed all the knowledge there is to know about the Wowniverse, by some as yet unexplained process of osmosis. Let's face it, he's a pro - and we're not. Or so he'd like you to believe.

If you wipe, he'll ragequit most likely, but not before telling all and sundry how bad they are at playing the game. If you do something wrong, he'll abuse you, rather than offer some helpful advice. Plebs like us aren't worthy of the air he breathes.

Stay with me, I do have a point coming...Fact is, no one likes this guy. He thinks he's great but we know better, don't we? All the skill in the world does not give you or him the right to act like this toward anyone. Keep in mind, there are real people behind these toons, and maybe they aren't as experienced as you - but that's fine, right? Try to explain what to do, if they dont know. Be constructive, not abusive.

Don't forget, there was a time when you, and I, didn't know what to do. And I, for one, would have been grateful for some tips. In face-to-face society, that kind of behaviour is unacceptable anywhere you go, thus, having the anonymity of the Interwebs to hide behind, does not - or rather, should not, give anyone licence to act like a tool. So now that I'm down from my Soapbox, and have dribbled on for too much of your time already, dear Guilderino's, I shall leave you with this: Don't be That Guy, no one will like you ;-P

Oh, and if you join a group and wish to play a game of Identify the Tosser with yourself, just look for the Deathknight ;-D

Zul'Gurub Run Last Monday

Monday night at 8:30 pm realm time we had 5 members from our humble guild as well as 3 outsiders join in the exciting raid of Zul'Gurub. All Participants seemed to have an excellent time and for me it was alot of fun.

Luckily we had a good Tank - Lexluthor - and a couple of Healers while everyone else did dps.. The Participants were in 2 groups consisting of (with statistics):

Group 1
Badgertron 466919

Group 2
Moosefactor 509104
Arturas 347335
Lexluthor 1003206
Lysiatada 1779778

We also did a Sunken Temple run early that day at 3:00 pm realm time for Lexasdez, who unfortunatly is usually unable to join us during the other raids We sure enjoyed trying to defy gravity at the dungeons. Our group consisted of:

Badgertron
Moosefactor
Lexasdez
Shakyeah
Keidvala

Hopefully jn future we get more people joining in these dungeons runs and raids. I am trying to turn them into a weekly Guild Event. Our plan is to do the Black Temple next monday at 8:30pm realm time. I sure hope everyone can make it and if you have any concerns with run times or you would like to organise a run yourself, just send me an email at halogearbox@hotmail.com or contact me in game and I will support you any way I can.

sincerely,
Badgertron

You are Sacked (2)

Often the first ranges of thoughts when you see the above words involve a lot of expletives followed by, "that's unfair"' and "how in blazes did it get to this?"

Guild or party chat has gone omiously quiet... then is followed by an explosion of volcanic proportions containing opinions and inuendo not necessarily involved with the topic at hand...

It then occurs to some onlookers, that normally social, happy, chatty players are now at each others throats and threatening one another... it all took approximately 30 seconds to completely ruin a players' experience and perception of the people they thought were nice folks.

How did it happen?

It is all in how we communicate. How do we get questions answered, opinions sought, appreciate comedy, feelings and achievements we experience in many walks of life, but expressly in WoW? We type... and type... and type.

Words on their own, have no emotion or inflection in tone or colour. We have to express emotions and generate language by forming pictures with words or structuring phrases to achieve an outcome. A picture says a thousand words... but for the most part we can only type. So lets have a look at an overveiw of why we play, why we react the way we do and what can we do to prevent the 30 second volcanic erruption?

* as a global network we come from all walks of life, a wide range of cultures, ages, and personal experiences. What is a normal everyday expression in one culture, may be inflammatory, degrading and emotionally debilitating in another. What is a joke or word play in one culture is defamatory and discrimanatory to another cultural group.
* some people are naturally quick witted and have excellent communication skills however, that same intent expressed by another less adept person may cause anything from slight embarassment to significant emotional trauma and anger
* teen speak is different from kidspeak and both differ markedly to adult communication. How often has a parent been heard lamenting, "I wish I knew what language my kids are speaking"? Kids old enough to play WoW through to the older teens love and appreciate being treated and included on an adult level, but need the stimulation of other people their own age. This can create inconsistancies. Kids can be led in the right direction if managed appropriately.
* when someone isnt feeling the best, either physically or mentally, WoW is a often where a player comes to escape and sometimes socially debrief or unwind with fellow players that they place a certain amount of trust in. We interpret what we read and write, and consequently, react more negatively than when we are well rested and in a positive frame of mind
* often we get lazy while communicating... "why type an extra word or line when I know what I mean"
* never type in anger... often a diplomatic /dnd (do not disturb), /afk (asleep ... sorry that would be away from keyboard) or exit strategy is the best way to handle an upsetting situation in the short term
* chastising a player, however far out of line should never occur in a public forum
* if you have conflicting opinions, take it to a group / party chat... often whispers escape at the worst possible moment
* good communicators are able to either difuse a situation by showing understanding, guiding and not taking sides. These people become, almost by default, the reluctant negotiators and as a result fade away from the game as it becomes emotionally hard work
* good leaders often sit back and see where a situation is going first, gather facts, then deal with a situation. Most negative situations resolve themselves with a little commonsense and time. Occasionally this is interpreted as sitting on the fence and poor leadership, when in fact it is the total opposite
* time and reasoning expectations are different for different people. An all too frequent event occurs when some people expect events to happen quickly, they want everything "yesterday" and believe everyone should drop what they are doing to help them achieve their own targets... If requests are ignored, the player then feels ignored and upset... usually with negative effects for a number of the following weeks. Yet if the person is given an appology and a reason why they are unable to assist at that particular time, the event is defused, the person may well be assisted in one way or another, and the "feeling of being part of a team" is stronger
* "They just dont get it... they must be stupid"... is the bullies escape clause, and never appropriate. To type it in an open forum is horrific
* on rare occasions Officers must be able to type STOP... all chat is to cease, as if an officer has to use this tool, it is definitely time for everyone to sit back and take stock of what has been going on at that time.
* once dealt with, never bring it up again. The only time this is not applicable is where a warning for behaviour has been issued by an officer and approved by the GM
* swearing as with many other words has context when verbalised... that same context cannot always be implied in writing. It is by far better to avoid it altogether in a written environment, especially where a platform such as WoW is well known for having kids around, and just because one individual might be swearing after 10pm, that does not mean everyone that is attendant to the conversation is also in the same time zone.
* emotion can be implied in limited cases by utilising some keyboard tools... :D or lol are two very common examples...
* "in-jokes" or "you had to be there" type humour should be kept in the group of origin
* any one of us should be able to sign on and feel safe from ridicule, inuendo, language barriers and be able to learn, socialise and have fun.
* respect and commonsense...

Thats my 2 cents worth for this week... and for the post 1975, a dollars worth of what I hope is an informative post that will lead to better communication and social security in our guild.

Guild Rules of Conduct (2)

Knights of Ni Welcomes...Me!

Greetings, my esteemed Guilderinos.

I have been tasked by our ever-radiant GM to do a bit of writing from time to time on the site. No wukkas, thinks I, so what should I ramble on about first? I know, I thought to myself, why not start by introducing myself? Fantastic idea, me.

Disturbing adoration for myself aside, let's commence the introductions, shall we? I have (at present) two level 80 toons in the Guild; Abbie the Paladin (who's gorgeous,  smiling visage you can see above), and Adelle, the sexy Druid. I have been playing WoW  for way, waaaay too long - since day 1 pretty much - and thusly, have accumulated a grand total of 7 80's. I know, it's a bit sad, but what can I say? My name is Abbie, and I'm an Altoholic.

I have been here for a day, and I already feel at home - and believe me, I'm very fussy when it comes to Guilds. Everyone I've spoken to thus far have been very welcoming and friendly, and I genuinely look forward to meeting you if I haven't already, and getting to know you all. As you get to know me, you'll notice that I have an extreme disdain, almost hatred, for Death Knights. And yes, I do have one. Why Abs, I hear you ask, do you have a DK if you dislike them so? Well, my friends, I simply couldn't tell you. It's a perpetual mystery to me as well.

I'll take this opportunity, then, to extend a warm welcome to...me...and I'm sure you - yes, you - and I, will have a blast. And before I wrap this up, let me just say that if there's anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to ask. Oh, and stay tuned for more intellectually stimulating (or not) posts from yours truly, they really could be about anything *cue eerie music*.

Cheerio!
- Abbie.

PS - Get cracking on those photos for the competition people! You want to win lots of golds don't you? Of course you do!

Guild Run at Gundrak Show Lots of Fun

The Knights of Ni just attempted a go at Gundrak. We got a group with Everla, Necromantis, and Moosefactor showing good team work in order to pick the right strategy. Good enthusiasm all around after wiping the first halls a couple of times, we all still wanted to continue.

The Group had Moose showing good initiative in tanking and Eve doing an excellent job - as always - at healing, Necro and myself as dps. Unfortanetly we didnt quite make it past the first 2 to 3 elites but at least we tried a number of times.

We certainly were an epic fail but we had an epic good time! LOL

Leveling Present Officer Found!

The Knights of Ni now have a new Leveling Present Officer in the form of Lysiatada. All Members are asked to contact the Officer on reaching level 20, 30, 50 and 70 for mount training refunding and Leveling Presents.

Because Lys will have Visitors in real life in March, I will be handling the Leveling Presents in that month. Please note that the Guild supports one main character and one alt member with Leveling Presents.

We wish Lysiatada well in his new role within the Guild!

Sought: New Leveling Present Officer

The Knights of Ni are looking for a new Leveling Presents Officer (m/f). He or she should be keeping an eye on Members leveling and be ready to hand out Leveling Presents to those who reach level 20 (mount and mount training), level 30 (25 gold), level 50 (50 gold) or level 70 (100 gold). As always Members can also look under the blue tab in the Guild Bank to see if it contains an item interesting for him/her, instead of the gold.

Ary is as always also willing to create the Leveling Member something from his Blacksmithing list, i.e. a piece of armor or a weapon.

The New Leveling Presents Officer will be a full Member of the Guild's Round Table and should have experience in World of Warcraft. Applications, please to Aryeeth or Everla, by in game mail.

Guild Run for Lower Levels

On Sunday last, Badgertron and Dooyeah organized a Guild Run for the Lower Levels of our Beloved Bunch. From the responses of our Guild Members this was a great success and we hope for them to keep on organizing runs like these in future!

For more Information and Dates of Runs, contact Badgertron or Dooyeah in game. Thanks again, Guys!

New Dept. Guild Mistress EVERLA !!!

As of now the Knights of Ni have a new Deputy Guild Mistress. Choosen she was from the vast number of members claiming to be right for the position, but more experienced and longer with the Guild than most!

Everla will still be coordinating the Junior Mentoring Scheme, but will now also speak in the Knight's name and in the name of the Guild Master.

We wish Everla the Best with her new Posting and expect to hear more from her!

All Hail Everla !!!

Today's Discussion: The Knights of Ni Allow Alts in Other Guilds

A short response to today's discussion about loyalty to the Guild and the exodus of several Members: The Knights of Ni have ALWAYS and will ALWAYS allow Members to have Alts in other Guilds. At NO point in time has there been a doubt of our Members Loyalty towards Our Guild and People will NOT be kicked because They keep Alts with other Guilds.

As to the generally spread thought that not wearing the Guild Tabbard will lead to the Member being kicked from the ranks, I can only say that Someone may have understood something wrong. The Knights of Ni wish for Members to wear the Guild Tabbard at all times, except for those times when wearing a faction's Tabbard is needed to get their respective Reputation up with the respective faction.

For All and Other Questions, please ask an Officer or myself.

Alliance Time

Most of our Older Members know this drill: two Guilds, striving for the same Gaming aspects in World of Warcraft meet and by using the AddOn "GuildAlliance" speak in the same Guild Chat Bar and are able to see which of the Allied Guild's Members are online.

Today a Guild Mistress came to me and asked me, if we would be interested to using the the Alliance part of Wow. I answered her, that our Guild takes a high interest in keeping certain forms of language as low as possible and she answered me, she keeps the same tight "drill" for her Guild Members.

I want to know if You would like to try this Alliance aspect (again). When you feel you need to explain your motivation, post here, in the other case just move on to our Poll.

Thanks in Advance!

Run of Jenkins

Today, several Members of The Knights of Ni undertook a long and seemingly endless journey for the Title of Jenkins.

Two Groups, consisting of variously leveled Members traveled to the Upper Black Spire at the Molten Core to kill 50 dragon whelps in less than 15 seconds. Both Groups came back alive, taking little damage and bringing back their Newly Won Title "Jenkins".

We All say "Hail to the Conquerers" and wish Them many more Glorious Titles on Their Ways to the Top!

200 Members... Consolidation Time

At the Verge of Reaching 200 Members, I wish for Our Guild to take some Consolidation Time. Making new Friends in such a short While also Needs Time to get to Know each Other and to see how We All fit together.

As I said in Guild Chat today, I wish for new Members to read the Blog Post called "Guild Rules of Conduct" as Living, Leveling, Working and Fighting Together takes some sort of Structure. In this Light I also wish to refer You to Webmistress Chique's Post "You Are Sacked".

Do remember that You as a New Member are entitled to our Guild Leveling Gifts, for levels 20, Mount training and mound refunded, levels 30, 50 and 70 an item from the Blue Tab in the Guild Bank or something from my Blacksmithing list. Do Contact Ahlaina (Lostagain) and myself for details and claiming Your Gift.

Last but not Least, I wish all New Members and all Old Members Happy Playing Hours and loads of Fun!

Yours,

Ary

Apologies

Greetings all knights, First up, My apologies for missing the meeting on Sunday. I had planed to make it but due to other issues I was unable to attend. I hope at this time I have other issues under control so as not to enter fear with my future plans.
I am however very happy to be with the knights and look forward to a very long relationship.

On the issue of Vent, I must agree with Ary. I have used Vent several times and for me it was always a real pain to hear anybody clearly and I only have 2 hands so when you are in a battle it is very hard to try and push another key just to talk, at least the chat program built into WOW can be made hands free.

I won't go on and bore you all so I will make this short. If anybody ever needs help with killing someone, just give me a yell, I will be very happy to help you out.
I look forward to seeing you all in the game.

In Blizz.com We Trust

This early Morning Blizzard sent me the items that were stolen from our Guild Bank a week and a half ago.

In order to put them all where they belong, I donated 3.500 gold to the existing 1.500 gold and bought another Bank Tab. This tab is called "Armor Weaponry" and is accessible with the same restrictions as the other tabs.

All members from this day on, can take weapons from the Guild Bank again without HAVING to put their old weapons in. The Blue Tab for Rare High Level items will still be used for people who are entitled to a leveling present. The Guild will continuously support only the Main Character and 1 Alt with Leveling Presents.

Please dont forget to donate gold, silverlings and/or bronze when You repair from the Guild Bank. Thanks in advance!

Members Leaving?

Over the course of last weekend I have noticed some People leaving Our Guild for various Reasons. Some of those were good reasons, many did not make sense to me at all.

From different sources I have heard that Members are concerned and unhappy. From different sources... in only one case from someone directly. Something is wrong. Why cant people tell me directly that they worry or that they dont agree with things? I dont know why, but what I do know is that nothing will change in their favor, if they themselves dont stick their heads out and say something to me.

Our Guild Council decided upon keeping our youngsters within the guild yesterday. We appointed another Mentor: Zalashji, together with Everla, Oscarsfury and Amazonghost. We also decided that some things need changed, guidelines for better communication and in the end closer friendship need made and last but not least some form of "punishment" for Members who repeatedly have broken our rules of conduct. Ofcourse, we can kick them out of the Guild, but by just "punishing" we hope they'll better themselves in future.

Better communicado also means talking to one another. I am very well aware of the Fact that our Guild is NOT a democracy and that we dont allow people to do as they like all the time. We want to play with people we find nice and pleasurable to be with, but we set them rules. When People dont want to play by those rules, fine, so be it. It is where our Paths separate.

Level 80 Raid on Saturday

On Saturday night the fearless Knights of Ni entered Sartharian’s Lair in Obsidian Sanctum, worked their way through cleaning up the trash slaughtered the 3 drakes.

We then engaged the big dragon herself, executed the strategy beautifully and proceeded to one shot Santharian earning the achievement ‘Besting the Black Dragonflight (10)’.

Our fearless Knights were:

Tanked by Fearim and Wumper (Gnomeball)

Healed by Electricealz and Ahlaina

DPS by Lantherian, Iseult, Jaylyn, Woteva, Minipip and our beloved Chique.

We then had a bit of fun in the vehicles of Ulduar and beat our heads against the boss for a while. A learning experience for all.

We will be having another go next week starting with OS again and following up with Naxxramas. So please sign up if you’re interested.

See you all soon!

You are sacked!

  • as a global network we come from all walks of life, a wide range of cultures, ages, and personal experiences. What is a normal everyday expression in one culture, may be inflammatory, degrading and emotionally debilitating in another. What is a joke or word play in one culture is defamatory and discrimanatory to another cultural group.
  • some people are naturally quick witted and have excellent communication skills however, that same intent expressed by another less adept person may cause anything from slight embarassment to significant emotional trauma and anger
  • teen speak is different from kidspeak and both differ markedly to adult communication. How often has a parent been heard lamenting, "I wish I knew what language my kids are speaking"? Kids old enough to play WoW through to the older teens love and appreciate being treated and included on an adult level, but need the stimulation of other people their own age. Ventrilo or Skype For Guild Raiding ?

Slightly ahead of the Guild's Council Meeting on Sunday, I would like to (re-)open the discussion about two possible programs we could use for Guild Raiding.

Some of You may think that a discussion this on this topic goes too far. When You have listened to Members discussing this topic in the recent past, you will have found out that some People wish to use Ventrilo because they have good experiences with it. I on the other hand want to rid the Guild of it because I only have good experiences with Skype and some Members have just heard about these two chatprograms without knowing what they're there for.

My Experience with Ventrilo are numerous and negative. One of the most negative aspects of the program i find the excrusiating mix up in voices over my headset: its very hard to distinguish difference in (tones of) voices, as the program doesnt allow it. And then there is the disturbance when more than one or two people speak at the same time! I also have a problem with Ventrilo using up a lot of my resources that I would otherwise spend on WoW itself. And last but not least, I cant see to get used to holding a key down to speak without it conflicting with my rotation or the quickness of my mind. Apart from all these aspects, getting to use a server, someone has to come up with the cost. Ventrilo servers are NOT for free.

Needless to say, all of the above described problems do not exist in Skype. This is always hands-free, has no disturbances whatsoever or doesnt flatten voices when they "look alike". Skype also uses only little of my slaptop's resources, so i will always be able to have my run well. Skype doesnt cost a thing. Not the program and not the conference call.

Before I "ban" the Ventrilo program, I would like to start some fair trials with both programs in different situations of WoW. Excluding Ventrilo from our gaming will not just be a matter I would force a decision upon, it would be a Guild Decision for the best program. I would like to ask all Ventrilo users to help install the correct versions with the other Members during the coming days, whereas I will be on stand-by to guide People through the Skype setup.

And Last but Not Least: Tell me what You think! Post, Post, Post!

New Weapons At Guild Bank Again!

Today, Saturday, I bought some new weapons for the Guild Bank again, mainly to overcome our recent robbery and to offer our Members the chance to exchange their present weapon for a better one. New rule, however: when you take out your new weapon, you put in your old weapon. Please do NOT donate any much lower level weapons.

To all our Members who have recently used the Guild Bank to repair, please donate some silverlings in return. Above described weapons have been bought with Guild gold and some of myself. Thanks in Advance! As to our Rare/High Level tab, we will suspend the use of that by Members untill we get our belongings back from Blizzard.
As to leveling alts, please understand, that we cant give you rare items indefinitely. Right now, Your main and one alt are getting leveling rewards. Lets keep it that way!

Raid Marathon Planned! See Guild Calendar for Details!

Another small message, this time from our Raiding Department, Everla and Aarjon: All Members (level 60+) are kindly requested to check out the Guild Calendar and answer to their Invitation to join in the Raid Marathon.

Apparently they have room for 40 People and tell us: "First Come, First Get!" So Guys and Gals, be there when it starts!

Bankshrubbery... or Bankrobbery? That Is The Question

Our Beloved Deputy Guild Master Moirin was hacked today and gave our Guild Bank a thorough "shrubbery". Immediate Action has been taken, reports been filed and a ticket was sent. We expect to hear from Blizzard in due time. In the past, they sent us our belongings and stolen gold back, so we are joyously expecting mail from the Game Master.

Untill then, keep adding your excess items to the Guild Bank. The Perp (in the form of Moirin) was removed and we will continue to do business as usual.

NOTICE: Guild Council Meeting On January 17, 2010

The Knights of Ni have grown stronger and larger over the last two months and our goals then are not nessecarily our goals for the future anymore. It is for this reason that I am calling for a Guild Council Meeting on January 17, 2010 at 19.30 realm time.

All Officers (Knights of the Treasury included) are kindly asked to respond to their In-Game invitations and consider Points of Interest and Topics they want to bring forth at the Meeting. All in all, this weekend's Meeting is about Ideas, Views and Expectations of where our Guild will be going in the months to come.

All other Members are invited to respond to this Notice by posting comments to it! Give Us Your Ideas and Views and let Us know how You feel about the Guild now!

Greed, Need or Disenchant? (Oops, sorry, I pressed the wrong button)

Looting protocol is, sadly, the most neglected rule of the game of WoW.
Nothing will spoil an otherwise excellent run through an instance more than a player displaying their ignorance by rolling need on an item unsuitable for their class.

Looting rules seem to vary between guilds and, as shown recently by the new dungeon finder system, across realms.

It is NOT rocket science. Lets firstly examine the NEED roll

Step 1: NEVER roll need on an item unless it is bind on pickup.
Step 2: Only roll need on an item you can currently equip as an upgrade.
Step 3: Do NOT roll need on an item that would be an upgrade for your other spec. If you wish to upgrade your healing set, enter the instance as a healer, not as a tank.

In the event that another party member has won a roll on an item you desire, negotiate with them the purchase of that item. More often than not they will just give it to you.

If an item drops that would be an upgrade for you but the item is bind on equip simply ask before rolling if you may roll need and wait for an answer before rolling. It may help to link your currently equipped item to party chat to indicate your need. BUT, the fairest way to approach this situation is to just roll greed and if you don’t win the roll, approach the player who did and negotiate a trade.

Remember that you are displaying "Knights of Ni" under your name and that your behaviour in “pick up groups” not only defines you as a player but also reflects on the guild.

Rare Weapons Now at Guild Bank

On Sunday I bought some nice and interesting Rare weapons for leveling gift purposes. Among them some daggers, polearms, wands and maces. Take a look at the Guild Bank, Blue tab to see if anything is there that You like. If You find something, do tell Ahlaina or myself, so we can make "reservations" for the particular item.

The weapons and most of the armor I aquired over the last couple of days were paid by the Guild, some by myself. If You come upon a Rare or Epic item that is not too expensive at the auction house, do let us know and we may be able to buy it ahead.

Those handy places to "find stuff out"

If you are anything like me, you have often wondered what is the better piece of gear, why cant I get my DPS up, where do I go with talents and specs and what is DPS anyway!?! The following information is based on personal experience and at this point in time, both websites recommended are free from spam, adulterations, and malware.

The who, what, where, when, how and why...

Well, have no fear... your questions can be answered by employing a few resources...

http://www.wowwikki.com/ is one of my personal favourites... no matter how innane the question, the answer or part thereof is generally found here. It is quite up to date with the latest upgrades.

What about addons...

http://www.curse.com/ is anything but a curse! It is in fact a brillliant site for choosing an addon to help you to do pretty much anything within the game structure and is compliant with the rules of engagement stipulated by Blizzard.

It is a very user friendly site where you can even package a group of addons that you can easily update on signing into the curse website when the developers make the updates available.

What addons are best for your game? Well, that entirely depends on personal preference and where you are in the game itself. Have a chat to the guildies with regard to their favourites and why.

Just remember, no website except for your signon with Blizzard should be asking for your signon details... do not trust any other site that asks for these details.

Trick or Treat - Leveling Gifts

Since we value your efforts and hope to assist you in your endeavours the Knights of Ni provide some fabulous levelling gifts.

Ever gotten to level 20 but can’t afford the mount? I know I have. Well now that’s no longer a problem, on reaching level 20 you will receive 10 gold to pay for your extra set of legs and training.

On reaching level 30 you will receive 25g, on 50, you guessed it, 50g or your choice of rare items in your range from the guild bank. To help you on the final stretch on reaching level 70 you will receive 100g or your choice of rare items in that range from the guild bank. Aryeeth and I are always happy to make something from our blacksmithing range for you also, so browse our items and see if there’s something you crave.

If your gift doesn’t turn up do send me a line so I can make sure it gets through.
Happy levelling all and see you in WoW land soon.
